RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
In December 2003 the Commission received the City's Distinguished Citizen
Award For Human Rights. The Commission continued its operation of the
craft shop, Traditions and Beyond but moved the shop from the Brodrick Building
on Cherry Street to the Pearl Warren Building on 12th Avenue South..The Commission
continued its operation of the summer youth program, Options. The Commission
continued its management of the Leschi Center and the Pearl Warren Building.
The Commission continued to develop e-commerce for the craft shop. The Commission
continued to award scholarships to Native American/Alaskan Native students. The
Commission applied for and received a Gates Foundation grant for a Community
Technology Computer Lab. In addition, the Muckleshoot
Tribe continues its generous support of the Commission and the Options Program.
The lab is now open for business and classes are being offered see Options.
The Commission would also like to acknowledge the generous assistance of the
Puyallup Tribe of Indians and the
Tulalip Tribes and Washington Mutual.

TRADITIONS AND BEYOND
The Seattle Indian Services Commission
is organized pursuant to Seattle Municipal Code (SMC) 3.110 and RCW 35.21.660,
35.21.670, and 35.21.730-.755. RCW 35.21750 provides as follows: “All
liabilities incurred by such public corporation, commission, or authority
shall be satisfied exclusively from the assets and properties of such public
corporation, commission, or authority and no creditor or other person shall
have any right of action against the city, town, or county creating such
corporation, commission, or authority on account of any debts, obligations,
or liabilities of such public corporation, commission, or authority.”
